Holiday Wreath (large)

Out of stock

Description: These woodland-inspired wreaths are handcrafted from natural materials. Many of the fresh and dried components are harvested from Philly Beginning Farmers' gardens and farms in Philly and Chester, as well as foraged and sourced locally. Make a great first impression on your guests this holiday season by hanging this wreath on your front door, or hang it over a mantel or on a wall to surround yourself with the fresh and fragrant outdoors. Wreath measures 18-inches in diameter and can include Noble Fir, Incense Cedar, and Juniper on a metal frame, with foraged botanical elements. *Please note: All wreaths are natural and handmade so the botanical accents may vary.

The wreaths are crafted by Philly Beginning Farmers, a group of urban farmers (including folks from Strawberry Mansion, as well as recently resettled refugees from Nepal and the Congo) committed to improving food security in their communities. These dedicated farmers improve food security in their neighborhoods by providing emergency food donations to community members in need; through farm markets that increase local fresh food access; through garden coaching sessions for community gardeners to build local food sovereignty and self-sufficiency; by helping to maintain gardens run by community elders; and through youth and adult education around sustainable agriculture.

Uses: Use to decorate and bring cheer to your holiday with an ethically and handcrafted wreath that supports a great cause!

Philly Beginning Farmers

The Philly Farms Beginning Farmer Program is a project of East Park Revitalization Alliance a 501(c)(3). The program continues to provide stipends to urban food producers who are developing and piloting farm businesses that will provide them with supplemental income while also improving community food security within their community. This 2017 Edible Philly article further describes some efforts to date by this dedicated group: http://ediblephilly.ediblecommunities.com/things-do/grays-ferry-garden-opportunity-grows Examples of ways in which farmer participants have both provided and received support this year include the 60 hours of garden coaching that beginning farmers have provided to help Strawberry Mansion community residents grow, harvest and cook organic food in a food desert , the 10,000+ pounds of food that have been grown and sold at affordable rates to the community or donated to recently resettled refugees this season, the 5000 youth volunteer hours that have been coordinated in support of community greening care for many elder gardens, so that elders can continue to share their wisdom with youth.
