When you shop at Philly Foodworks, you're not just buying groceries. You're an active participant in building a food system that benefits everyone in our community. The money you spend with us forms the pillars of an inclusive food ecosystem – one that supports local farmers, nourishes families, and fosters sustainability. PFW customers can also make additional donations that go to support our food access work.
Food Access Programs That Make a Difference
- Low-Cost Produce Boxes: Our Low-Cost Produce Box program ensures that locally grown produce is accessible to all community members. By partnering with community organizations, we offer these boxes at a discounted rate, spreading the benefits of fresh food far and wide.
- Neighborhood Farmstand: Our farmstand is located in front of our warehouse at 20th and Hunting Park on Fridays and Saturdays. Our warehouse is located in North Philadelphia amidst a designated food desert. We accept SNAP payments and offer high-quality locally sourced food at a discount for our neighbors who otherwise do not have access to this food. Neighbors shop, participate in workshops, and share knowledge about health and food.
- Weekly Food Donations: No good food goes to waste. Our surplus fruits and vegetables find their way to organizations like West Phillie Produce, Sunday Love Project, Social Impact Cafe, and community fridges. In addition to donating surplus fruits and vegetables, we buy additional items from local farms and producers and donate them to these organizations.
- One-for-one Ground Beef: For every pound of ground beef we sell, we donate one pound! This helps make grass-fed ground beef more accessible while helping us support our local farmers.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
You can add a one-off or weekly recurring donation to your shopping cart. These donations are tax deductible, and you will receive a letter acknowledging your donations at the end of the year.
