Avocados

$4.99

Considered a healthy fat, Avocados are actually a fruit without being sweet. They are known for their subtle flavor and smooth texture, typically consumed raw they can garnish almost any savory dish and have also been used in baking!

Avocados are pear-shaped fruits that grow on subtropical trees. There are about 400 varieties of avocado, but they all have these characteristics in common. The skin is relatively hard, green to black and slightly ribbed. The soft and creamy flesh is light green or yellow in color. Each avocado variety has its own flavour, ranging from salty to nutty, to sweet, with shades in between. These organic and fair trade avocados are coming from a collective of farmers in Mexico.

Check out this recipe for Chipotle Style Guacamole! Now you can make the guacamole that Steve Ells created for the first Chipotle Mexican Grill!

Storage: If unripe, keep them on the shelf in a dry, cool place. If you want to store after cutting, spritz some lemon on the flesh to prevent browning and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

FarmArt

FarmArt is one of the Philadelphia region’s top produce distributors. Their mission is to provide their customers with the sweetest fruit and freshest vegetables in the most dependable, friendly manner. They're a family-owned business, started by Steve Klinghoffer. The Klinghoffer family has supplied produce to the Philadelphia market since 1972. Their family has over 100 years of collective experience in the produce business, bringing knowledge from retail, farmers' markets, food-service and even organic farming sectors to the FarmArt brand. After years of farming organic tomatoes and selling fresh produce through retail channels, founder Steve Klinghoffer and family tapped into the wholesale market, building on business from chefs who purchased in bulk from the now-closed FarmArt retail store in Strafford, PA to become Philadelphia's wholesale produce specialists. From their current headquarters just outside the city in Folcroft, FarmArt supplies the region's top restaurants, cafes, caterers, and retailers with high-quality produce from around the world and the mid-Atlantic region. They saw a need for a local-centric outlet and started the brand Barefoot Boy under their parent company. Barefoot Boy is locally focused providing the tastiest produce this region has to offer during the height of the changing seasons. You can read more about Barefoot Boy under their producer profile.
