Bloody Dock Sorrel

$4.99

5 oz

This red-veined sorrel has a slightly lemony taste, making it slightly different from other greens. It can be eaten raw in small amounts and looks striking as a garnish in salads. As a salad green, it is best to mix it with other green leaves for a better flavor. Usually, the larger the leaves, the more bitter the flavor can be, but this red sorrel doesn't take on that quality.

Description: This red-veined sorrel has a slightly lemony taste, which makes it a bit different from other greens. It can be eaten raw in small amounts, and looks striking as a garnish in salads. Sorrel is a great cooking green; it contains oxalic acid that is released during cooking and should only be consumed in small amounts. It's high in vitamins A & C, iron and potassium. Try it in this great soup recipe, Creamy Leek & Sorrel Soup!

Storage: Will last in the refrigerator for several days if you wrap it in a damp paper towel or place it in a plastic bag.

Honey Brook Harvest Collective

Located in Honey Brook, PA the Harvest Collective is a group of farmers that all grow and contribute to our food system we're working hard to develop. Initially, we first met Reuben Riehl in the fall of 2012 and began talking about this crazy idea of him supplying the CSA. Now, two and a half years later, Reuben and eight of his neighbors are growing crops, making cheese, and raising chickens, beef, pork, duck, and lamb for the CSA. The group is only open to growers that care greatly for their land and take pride in their natural growing methods. While they are not certified organic, they do everything in their power to raise their crops and animals in the healthiest way possible.
