Cacao Pods



Cacao pods range from medium to large in size and generally have an oblong, tapered appearance with blunt to pointed ends. The rind also ranges in color from red, yellow, orange to purple and has a leathery and woody consistency when opened. The flesh of Cacao is sweet and slightly citrusy. Description: Origin: Cacao is believed to have evolved in the Upper Amazon region in an area that now includes some of Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. From there it spread Northward. This Cacao is grown sustainably in Ecuador.

Flavor Profile: Fleshy and flavorful pulp. The cacao pod contains many beans that are surrounded by a delicious white pulp. It is used to make juices and jellies. The seed is fermented and ground as the main ingredient in chocolate.

How To Eat: Cacao is ready to eat as soon as it arrives. Inside the cacao pod, you can eat the sweet flesh off the seeds. The seeds can also be eaten raw. If you want to make cacao nibs, make sure to roast or thoroughly dehydrated the seeds and then pulse blend in a food processor or blender.
