Pomegranate

$4.99

each

Depending on the variety and degree of ripeness, the seeds of the pomegranate can vary in taste from only a little sour (similar to ripe cherries) to fairly sharp (similar to uncooked cranberries).

Description: The pomegranate originated in the region extending from modern-day Iran through Afghanistan and Pakistan to northern India, and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region. The arils (seeds) or juice of pomegranates are used in baking, cooking, juice blends, meal garnishes, smoothies, and alcoholic beverages, such as cocktails and wine.

Recipe: One of the best dishes we've tried with fresh pomegranate is Braised Fennel with Pomegranate.

Storage: When kept in an airtight bag in the refrigerator, whole pomegranates will keep for a month or more. Pomegranate seeds should be refrigerated and used within a few days.

FarmArt

FarmArt is one of the Philadelphia region’s top produce distributors. Their mission is to provide their customers with the sweetest fruit and freshest vegetables in the most dependable, friendly manner. They're a family-owned business, started by Steve Klinghoffer. The Klinghoffer family has supplied produce to the Philadelphia market since 1972. Their family has over 100 years of collective experience in the produce business, bringing knowledge from retail, farmers' markets, food-service and even organic farming sectors to the FarmArt brand. After years of farming organic tomatoes and selling fresh produce through retail channels, founder Steve Klinghoffer and family tapped into the wholesale market, building on business from chefs who purchased in bulk from the now-closed FarmArt retail store in Strafford, PA to become Philadelphia's wholesale produce specialists. From their current headquarters just outside the city in Folcroft, FarmArt supplies the region's top restaurants, cafes, caterers, and retailers with high-quality produce from around the world and the mid-Atlantic region. They saw a need for a local-centric outlet and started the brand Barefoot Boy under their parent company. Barefoot Boy is locally focused providing the tastiest produce this region has to offer during the height of the changing seasons. You can read more about Barefoot Boy under their producer profile.
