Coffee: Guatemala Alma

Out of stock

Description: A delicious single-origin coffee, Alma was nurtured in the highlands throughout Guatemala—a blend of washed process Caturra and Bourbon varieties.

Tasting Notes: Chocolate, Walnut, Cinnamon

Producer: Smallholder producers
Region: Huehuetenango to Jalapa
Altitude: 1500 masl
Variety: Caturra and Bourbon
Process: Washed

Alma is a Guatemala coffee sourced from the renowned Huehuetenango down to Jalapa. This lot—made up of washed process Caturra and Bourbon varieties—is sourced for their lightly fruited but predominant creamy and chocolaty base. The producers know what they are doing because we taste dark chocolate, walnut, and cinnamon! And this makes it a great option for a single-origin espresso or a more classic-style coffee, with less bitterness and more flavor.

Through their supplier in Guatemala, this special coffee also helps to support families by giving them access to products that improve their quality of life. For every pound of Alma sold, $0.05 goes directly to Habitat for Humanity Guatemala to support their smokeless stove program. Stoves like this help the indoor air quality remain top-notch while also increasing wood-fuel efficiency, all while decreasing cook times. From the 2021 crop of Alma, 42 families received new stoves!

Backyard Beans Coffee Company

Matt and Laura Adams own and operate Backyard Beans Coffee, a specialty coffee roasting company based in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. They always loved roasting coffee for themselves. Producing batches for sale started because their local farmers’ market had none to offer. When they saw the need was the same in other markets, they were compelled to bridge the gap. Within a year, they found themselves in the middle of a flourishing coffee roasting business, complete with professional roasters and a new commercial space. The company name came about because all the work was initially done their own backyard. The logo is also significant because the initials of Laura L. Adams and Matt Adams spell “L.L.A.M.A.” The name and logo together reflect the hard work and dedication that goes into creating superior coffee. In many ways, Backyard Beans is a labor of love. They only purchase superior, responsibly sourced coffee beans. Working with an importer to source sustainably grown coffee from around the world is something in which they take great pride. Great coffee begins at the heart, with hard-working farmers and co-ops. By sourcing, they’re doing their part to secure a sustainable future.
