Out of stock
Description: This washed process Yirgacheffe is sourced by Guji Highland Coffee Plantation and was harvested Nov-Jan. The coffee was grown at some of the highest altitudes in Ethiopia. Yirgacheffe is located in the Gedeo zone which is south of Sidama and west of Guji. Gedeo is part of the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples region.
PRODUCER: Guji Highland Coffee Plantation
REGION: Yirgacheffe, Gedeo Zone
ELEVATION: 6,400 - 7,000 ft
ROAST: Light Med.
PROCESS: Washed
VARIETIES: Ethiopian Heirlooms
Guji Highland Coffee was established in 2012 and owns their own coffee farm and processing station in the Guji zone. In addition to producing their own coffee, the plantation also works with outgrower farms and a large number of small farmers in surrounding areas like Yirgacheffe. As a larger company, Guji Highland Coffee can provide technical training and processing operations for small holder farms.
Ethiopia is widely considered to be the birthplace of coffee, where it was picked from the wild and taken to Yemen to be grown as a crop during the 1400 and 1500’s. It took until the 1800’s for Ethiopian coffee production to grow and in the 1950’s quality standards were increased. Many of the coffee arabica varieties grown in Ethiopia are indigenous and can not be traced back to a particular variety. It’s common to find the phrase “heirloom” instead of a list of varieties. This could be from so many varieties growing in the wild and years of cross breeding.
Tasting Notes: Lemon, Sugarcane, Floral.
12 oz bag of whole beans.
