Description: Hill Road Coffee Roasters coffee beans are roasted to a variety of medium levels. This way the subtle and sometimes extreme differences between the coffee origins and processes can be tasted.
Farm/Co-op Notes: This coffee selection comes from Jose Noel Medez, Angel Ramos and 134 smallholder farms in the Guama Danta Community. This network of farmers is within the Comayagua district, one of the most productive coffee producing areas in Honduras. This area is located high in the forested mountains with red clay soils that help provide additional nutrients and porosity for plant growth. Coffee production in this area is a multi-generation tradition and coffee producers farm in various micro climates through out the mountains. Angel Ramos bought his first hectare of land from his mother and now he owns six hectares.
Guama Danta is surrounded by pine forest and a vast mountain range. They form a climate that is ideal for growing high quality, shade protected coffee. The area has well defined wet and dry seasons which help with flowering and fruit development of the coffee plants. Producers have adopted the use of solar drying with processing during the rainy season. Jose Noel Mendez has the ability to process his own coffee cherries at his farm and has embraced solar drying which aid in the coffee seeds drying uniformly. Thus achieving better quality and a better price for his coffee.
The 2021 harvest of Guama Danta is the first year for this coffee to be grown USDA Organic Certified.
