$7.50
1 lb
Also known as a tree tomato, this bright, red egg-shaped fruit is popular globally. The flesh of the tamarillo is tangy and variably sweet, with a bold and complex flavor, and may be compared to kiwifruit, tomato, guava, or passion fruit. The skin and the flesh near it have a bitter taste and are not usually eaten raw. Click on this item to see the full description.
Description: This amazing fruit is a bit of savory and sweet. Their color varies from yellow and orange to red and almost purple. Sometimes they have dark, longitudinal stripes. Red fruits are more sour, yellow and orange fruits are sweeter. The flesh has a firm texture and contains more and larger seeds than a common tomato.[4] The fruits are very high in vitamins and iron and low in calories. The fruit contains small, tender, edible seeds (similar to a tomato) and can be eaten fresh, although the peel is usually avoided.
Uses: Cut in half and scoop out the insides with a spoon. Can be eaten raw on its own. Makes a delicious juice and goes great in salads as well. Tamarillo is used in chutney, mixed into sauces, made into a dessert topping, pressed into juices, baked, and pickled.
