Mamey Sapote

$4.99

Mamey Sapote is a rare fruit, which is technically classified as a berry. The flavor is comparable to a sweet potato mixed with pumpkin pie, and it has a texture similar to an avocado when ripe. Click on this item to see the full description.

Description: Mamey Sapote has flesh ranging in color from pink to orange to red. The brown skin has a texture somewhat between sandpaper and the fuzz on a peach. The fruit's texture is creamy and soft, and the flavor is a mix of sweet potato, pumpkin, honey, prune, peach, apricot, cantaloupe, cherry, and almond.

A mamey sapote is ripe when the flesh is vibrant salmon in color when a fleck of the skin is removed. The flesh should give slightly, as with an overripe avocado. This fruit makes a great meal on its own. It can also be made into a refreshing smoothie or satisfying pie!

Try this smoothie recipe from Miami Fruit:
-32 oz jar of frozen Mamey
-32 oz jar of frozen bananas
-1 cup walnuts
-thumb of ginger
-1 tbsp cinnamon
-1/4 tsp nutmeg
-1/4 tsp cloves
-32 oz mason jar of water
Add dates for extra sweetness
