Coffee: Mexico - San Agustin Loxicha
$21.00
$18.00
Description: The town of Santiago Sochiltepec is the most populated town in the entire Sierra Madre mountain range at 1000 folks total. The Sierra Madre separates Oaxaca’s Central Valley from the Pacific Coast, providing an ideal growing climate for coffee. Cooling effects via pine forests, evening fog, and morning dew helps stabilize temperatures. It’s no accident that this is also referred to as the famous La Pluma region, home to the eponymous Typica varietal now protected as a recognized geographic indicator. Farmers from Sochiltepec are steadily adding expertise in specialty, turning to Terra Coffeas for advice.
Terra Coffeas Mexico is a new (2022) collaboration including engineers, agronomists, biologists, chemists, cuppers, artists and, of course, coffee lovers, all together for the common goal of agroecology – the intentional purposing of standards for quality and traceability towards the advancement of local cultural practices, environmental resources, and economic outcomes.
They invest their time advancing producer consultancy services, well ahead of harvest. Taking a narrow focus allows them to truly partner with producers, working as peers on farming, processing and export processes. Terra also offers an additional premium for women-produced coffees - this being the result of that program, where women producers received an addition .15 – .20 USD / KG premium.
