Coffee: Peru Velasco Flores
Out of stock
Description: This is Backyard Bean's 3rd year offering coffee from COOPAFSI in San Ignacio, Cajamarca, Peru. It is thanks to their importer’s strong relationship with COOPAFSI that we get to serve this coffee. COOPAFSI has made a big focus on gender equality, and in 2016 they launched Las Damas de San Ignacio - a women producer group. Harvest season for these producers is during our summer months and Brittany and Zoey from Royal NY (the importer) visited Las Damas. In addition to providing support for the women, Royal NY also separated out 4 families coffees that cupped high. Backyard Beans were able to buy all of the coffee produced by the Velasco Flores family - 11,700 lbs (77 bags). Much of this coffee will be going into their Breakfast Blend, and some of it will be around as this Single Origin for a few months.
One of the needs that Las Damas has is for improved coffee drying infrastructure (solar dryer tents). This was a need that Brittany and Zoey heard about, and saw, on their visit this past Summer of 2019. There is a Go Fund Me launched by Brittany https://www.gofundme.com/f/sponsor-a-solar-drying-tent-for-coopafsi-peru We want the mission of COOPAFSI to continue to flourish so Backyard Beans donated $290, the amount that pays for one producer to be able to build a solar dryer tent.
Origin: Cajamarca, San Ignacio
Producer: Velasco Flores Family who belong to the COOPAFSI cooperative.
Tasting Notes: oak, tamarind, nuts 12 oz bag of whole beans.
